Capturing the ambiguity and struggle of characters who have been through a lot, and can manage to seem both young and old at once, is clearly a talent of Brown's. It provided her quite the range of emotions to pull off, making it no surprise that just a few years later she was able to portray Eleven so well. In Intruders, Brown plays a little girl whose body is taken over by an adult male serial killer, with both souls fighting for control over the body. Madison was Brown's first big role and the complexities of the part gave her a primer on playing complicated characters. She received praise for her role as Madison O'Donnell on Intruders, making it clear she had something special right from the start. Before Stranger Things, Brown appeared in several different television shows, including Once Upon A Time In Wonderland, Intruders, NCIS, Modern Family, and Grey's Anatomy. Though she's only 12, she's no novice when it comes to acting, and her television experience has clearly helped her hone her craft. Millie Bobby Brown is the actress behind Eleven. Impressively, the actress manages all of this. Through all that, she still has to seem like a real child who only wants to feel safe and loved. She has to convey a whole host of complicated characteristics: incredible suffering, wisdom beyond her years, power and vulnerability. Eleven, a mysterious little girl who is named after the number printed on her arm, would be a demanding role for any actor, child or not. That mixture of all of us working, collaborating together - it was so weird, so different.There are more than a few young actors making their star turns on Netflix's Stranger Things, but even in a cast that's great across the board, there are still standouts. And, you know, Martie’s performance was amazing. “I mean, it always shocks me what we can do in our show,” said Brown. When she saw the final version, she was shocked to see just how good it was, and how great her double’s performance was. When it came to helping out the actress who would stand-in for her, it was all about making sure that Blair had someone help her understand Eleven, which is something Brown didn’t have when the character was created. We got this incredible small child to play me, Martie Blair.” Once we talked through it, it only made sense to have me play my younger self, and every time she sees her reflection, or recalls a memory, it’s her younger self. “I had to really sit down with the Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy to understand what specifically was happening, who was playing what and how that was going to work out. “That process was very unique for me,” Brown said. Speaking to Variety, Brown talked about the “very unique” experience of getting to explore the younger version of her character, and noted that she had to really dive into what was happening for her to make sense of it. Millie Bobby Brown has been starring in Netflix’s Stranger Things for almost a full decade now, and in the most recent season, the actress got to return to her younger self via various flashbacks that showed off more of Eleven’s childhood.
